Orlegi - public participation tool to design greener cities together
Orlegi is a public participation tool designed to encourage citizens to design the cities they would love to have. With a simple interface and the help of virtual reality it creates images of the desired places to share with the Municipalities. It can be used for specific projects that the Municipality wants to collect proposals about or to new initiatives by the citizens.

Achievement
Orlegi won the “NEB Citython of Vitoria-Gasteiz 2022” and “NEB EU Hackathon” and is founded by the EIT Climate KIC
Orlegi was born in the New European Bauhaus Hackathon of Vitoria-Gasteiz. The challenge was creating a solution for making green corridors around the city to avoid heat waves.
The project is a teamwork by the architect Geraldine DalĂ Sulca, the mobility engineer Gorka Pradas and me as a service designer.
Orlegi is a public participation toll that aims to work as shared space between citizens and Municipalities to exchange ideas. To create the cities the people want it is necessary to take their opinion into account and one image worths a thousand words.
With a simple interface and the help of virtual reality the citizens can navigate their city and choose the places they want to change. From a library they can add different urban design features and remove existing components to create their ideal solutions. These proposals are sent to the Municipalities by the app so the municipal workers can see all the proposals in the same place.
It is a useful tool to listen to the citizens and learn about their concerns in a pleasant way without boring meeting or long processes. It can be seen as a game for citizens, which can increase their participation interest.
At the moment Orlegi is under development in collaboration with “eit Community” and “Ayuntamiento de Vitoria-Gasteiz”. We are following a design thinking methodology and we are in the research phase collecting qualitative information from the different stakeholders.
